Pheasant Coucal
The Pheasant Coucal I must confess it is not my most favorite bird because it is responsible for eating many of the young chicks nesting on our property. These photos I took here were taken a couple of years ago before I acquired my good len's and it was overcast almost raining on and off. Other names are Cane Pheasant and Swamp Pheasant. They are 50-70cm in size with the female being larger. The Pheasant Coucal in these photos are a breeding Coucal. There is a difference in eye color and feather colours in breeding and none breeding coucals, but...
White-Cheeked Honeyeater
A gorgeous little bird with its striking colors of yellow, black and white. White-Cheeked Honeyeater is only 16-18cm in size and lives, breeds and feeds in rainforest margins, eucalypt forests, watercourse vegetation, coastal scrubs, paperbarks, and wet heaths. The most similar species is New Holland Honeyeater They also source insects often hovering for them in the air. On the Whitye Cheeked Honeyeater link above there is a lot of information on the lovely little bird, well worth the read. They Breed April- Nov and they have just the one partner for the breeding season. (how lovely) or depending on nectar...
A Bowl Of feathers and Color
The King Parrots never disappoint me I get the opportunity to photograph them. These photos were all taken at O'Reilly's Rainforest Retreat Qld a couple of years ago and just never got around to posting them. Iam lucky as I don't have to travel now to get my King Parrot photos as I have my own little family of them visit us on our property and come to almost arms reach of us while relaxing under our patio. But I thought I would share these few photos to show how socialable, colorful and charming they are. The male has lovely...
Babies Growing Up
Up until last summer I had never seen a juvenile King Parrot, in fact I hadn't even seen a King Parrot male or female until April 2019. Since then they have frequently visited our property. It started with 2 females and 1 male juvenile King Parrots which was amazing as we were able to watch the male transform into the stunning male that he is with his all red head and chest. This first juvenile Male had his first chick last summer and the Male and female bought him down to show him off to my husband and I. Normally...
Corella With A Bad Attitude
We all have our good days and not so good days, and this Corella looks pretty cute and innocent. We have a couple pop in from time to time but a couple of weekends ago hubby and were enjoying a cool drink under our back patio when a flock of about 30 Corella's started landing on our lawn. A couple of Sulphur Crested Cockatoos were enjoying some seed from the seed tray when the Corella's started flying up and chasing off all the other birds. Then just one started fighting all the other Corella's. The noise was horrific There were...
