Pacific Baza
Other name for this stunning bird is Crested Hawk. It grows up to 36-45cm and has a wing span of 80cm. You can see how beautiful the blue sky behind makes the photo so nice looking, but unfortunately we photographers don't get a say, we just have to do what we can when we see the subject we want to photograph. Pacific-Baza to wikipedia Their voice is a weak piping inflight, mellow double whistle, ee-choo, ee-choo descending. Their habitat is leafy trees on rainforests fringes; open forests; and woodlands; timbered watercourses; mangroves; well-treed suburbs. They breed from Oct-Dec and the...
Shoyoen Japanese Garden
Lindy and I spent a long time planning our trip to Dubbo in 2019. We didn't realise just how dry the countryside was until we did this trip, specifically to go to Dubbo Zoo and the Shoyoen Japanese Gardens which we had heard were beautiful. We couldn't get accommodation during the New South Wales September school holidays with all accommodation being fully booked out, This is when we were told was the peak time for the gardens. So we booked the last week of October and with it being so dry, the gardens were not at their peak, many things...
Forest Kingfisher
We are very fortunate to have both the Forest Kingfisher and the Sacred Kingfisher living in the trees on and around our property. Just being able to walk out our front door and just take a couple of steps to be able to photograph these beautiful little birds in their natural environment is beautiful. Years ago we put a very shallow frog pond in the bottom corner of our yard, the rain runoff keeps it topped up with lovely cold fresh water. Yes we have frogs in their but because we just let it do what it wanted to do...
Red Browed Finch
The bright scarlet bill, eyebrow and rump makes it easy to identify this little bird which is found only down the east coast of Australia and into coastal South Australia. The Juveniles bill is black and it lacks the eyebrow but has a scarlet rump like the adults. They are only 11-11.5cm in size. Similar species is the beautiful Red-eared Firetails which I haven't photographed yet as they are only in a small area in southern Western Australia. Their habitat is grassy clearings in forests, woodlands, coastal scrubs and heaths, mangroves, cane-fields, crops, roadsides, blackberries, lantana, golf courses, orchards, parks...
Road Trip to Dubbo September 2019
Day 1 of Lindy and my road trip to Dubbo. We planned on staying at Armidale on the first night allowing us enough time to stop off at the Queen Mary Falls. The drive to the falls was very dry but Picturesque. We enjoyed the drive to the falls winding up through the gorgeous rainforest stopping on the side of the road to witness to sound of thousands of Bell Minors Bell miners are commonly known as the Bell Bird. Lindy and I could of just stayed there all day listening to the sound of these very small quick birds....
