Road Trip to Dubbo September 2019
Day 1 of Lindy and my road trip to Dubbo. We planned on staying at Armidale on the first night allowing us enough time to stop off at the Queen Mary Falls.The drive to the falls was very dry but Picturesque.
We enjoyed the drive to the falls winding up through the gorgeous rainforest stopping on the side of the road to witness to sound of thousands of Bell Minors
Bell miners are commonly known as the Bell Bird. Lindy and I could of just stayed there all day listening to the sound of these very small quick birds. Back at the falls we mingled our way along the dry dusty track to the stream which was spring fed which became the Queen Mary Falls.
The Falls drop/plunge was a long way down
As we were walking back to the car to continue our journey to Armidale four female Red-Tail Black-Cockatoos flew directly over top of us. It was and amazing sight, being the first time I had spotted them in their natural environment
They were quiet high up too but flew so gracefully through the sky for the size of them.
Lindy and I continued on calling in at the Aloomba Lavender Farm at Liston where we enjoyed an amazing Devonshire Tea, with homemade fresh from the oven scones, jam and fresh whipped cream. It had become very smokie near Stanthorpe and at that stage we were unaware of the severity of the bush fires. The further we drove the more smokey it became, but continued on for another 2 hours til we reached Glenn Innes
We only stopped briefly for refreshments and leg stretching but were eager to get to Armidale as the smoke followed us all the way there
When were arrived and settled into our Motel we freshened up grabbed all the camera gear and ventured out to explore the lovely country town. Being born at Tamworth, Armidale was quiet familiar to me even though I hadn't been there since my early childhood days.
