Entertaining Wrens
It is not always easy to spot the tiny Wrens but if you are lucky to spot them, you will find them just amazing to watch especially in their breeding season when the males are busy keeping an eye on all his females. Most wrens are very small and very quick and when not breeding they can be hard to find. The Variegated Fairy-Wren below is so colourful especially the male. Their size is 11cm-14.5cm.They breed from July-Mar and a female will lay 3-4 eggs. Their preferred habitat is shrub associations, undergrowth, margins of clearing, woodlands, heaths, sand plain and dune...
Crimson Rosella Preening Feathers
It is not always easy getting a photo of a bird in the wild in their natural environment. I have spotted these birds many times while on a photography day trip, but they were too far away and had many trees and branches between them and my camera, making it basically impossible to capture a nice shot.Oh you can get up close at some of these wildlife attractions where they feed them, but there is nothing more enjoyable or rewarding for me than to get them in the wild doing their own thingies. The Crimson Rosella is an Australian Native...
Forest Kingfisher
We are very fortunate to have both the Forest Kingfisher and the Sacred Kingfisher living in the trees on and around our property. Just being able to walk out our front door and just take a couple of steps to be able to photograph these beautiful little birds in their natural environment is beautiful. Years ago we put a very shallow frog pond in the bottom corner of our yard, the rain runoff keeps it topped up with lovely cold fresh water. Yes we have frogs in their but because we just let it do what it wanted to do...
A Bowl Of feathers and Color
The King Parrots never disappoint me I get the opportunity to photograph them. These photos were all taken at O'Reilly's Rainforest Retreat Qld a couple of years ago and just never got around to posting them. Iam lucky as I don't have to travel now to get my King Parrot photos as I have my own little family of them visit us on our property and come to almost arms reach of us while relaxing under our patio. But I thought I would share these few photos to show how socialable, colorful and charming they are. The male has lovely...
A Naughty Rosella
The Pale-Headed Rosella is found in Queensland and Northern New South Wales. The featured photo is of a Juvenile and I must say he does look very innocent in this photo. I don't know what my problem is with this bird, but I find them very difficult to get a good photo. Their eyes are black too which makes it hard to get that twinkle in their eye, but I don't think I have a connection with this bird. It is very destructive in our garden, landing in our Grevillea trees and bushes and just snapping off the whole...
