The Laughing Kookaburra

Everyone loves the Kookaburras. There are 2 different Kookaburras, the Laughing Kookaburra Daccelo novaeguineae which is also known as the Laughing Jackass can be found right down the east coast of Australia to Eyre Peninsula South Australia, and the Blue-Winged Kookaburra Dacelo leachii which is also known as the Barking Jackass; Howling Jackass. It can be found, coastal north west, and north, north east Australia and Islands from Shark Bay Pilbara Western Australia to 50km south west of Brisbane Queensland

Kookaburras are birds in the Kingfisher subfamily Halcyoninae

The Laughing Kookaburra occupies the same territory all year and they are Monogamy having the same partner for life.They perch watchfully, making long sloping glides into Insects, Reptiles, Mammals and Crustaceans

They occasionally plunge into shallow water when hunting and commonly when bathing. It makes high circular display flights over enemy territory, with deep, stiff wing beats. Their habitat is woodlands, forests clearings, timbered watercourses, farmlands, orchards, parks, gardens. They Breed from Sept-Jan. Eggs/Hutch: 2-3

A breeding pair can can be accompanied by up to five fully grown non-breeding offspring from previous years that help the parents defend their territory and raise their young.This being a common sight on our property. I just love waking to the voice of the laughing Kookaburra that kook-kook-kook-ka-ka-ka sound. The laughing Kookaburra is native to eastern mainland Australia. It is the largest of the Kookaburras being 41-47cm in size. The Blue-Winged Kookaburra being 38-40cm in size

Kookaburras are truely unique to Australia and so precious
