Our Property Is A Buzzing With Bees
I never get tired or sick of the buzzing sound of bees which we have all year round, thanks to the many natives trees, shrubs and flowering gums. I heard that Bees can remember human faces and that doesn't surprise me because when I am photographing them I get up so close to them and they appear to look at me and I have never been stung by one yet (touch wood).
So how did honey start? From reading and researching bees, I have learnt that in 2006 the oldest know Bee known as Melittosphex Burmensis was found encased in amber, it is a 100-Million-Year Old Fossil.
Bees of today gave up their solitary lifestyle in favour of life in complex societies where many Bees share a nest and the duties of caring for the nest.
Bees certainly have emerged as the most successful pollinators of the era and still hold the title today with more than 20,000 species around the world.
Did you know Bees flap their wings 230 times per second? No wonder I find capturing them in flight to be a little difficult.
Bees come in many shapes, sizes and colors, there are good bees and wasps that we all want to encourage to our gardens, and there are the not so good ones that we don't want in our gardens. Identifying which ones are good and which ones are bad can be difficult.
Well the Editor of Happy DYI Home has updated a comprehensive guide on how to know which bees to keep and which bees to repel. I have found this wonderful reading and it is free. You can check it out on this link

Bees never stop working and don't like to leave any pollen behind. They can collect pollen from many places not just flowers but in the photo below I captured this cheeky one collecting it from a long skinny leaf
Did you know the smallest Bee in the world is the Perdita minima and is just 2mm in size, now that is small and the largest Bee is Megachile pluto and is almost 20 times bigger and has a wingspan of 63.5mm, known also as the flying bulldog. There were no sighting of it for 38 years, and has since been rediscovered on several Indonesian Islands
I will continue my work photographing these amazing, very precious Bees hoping to learn more and I will post more on Bees in the not to far distance
