Male Regent Bowerbird
Another bird I didn't expect to capture on camera was this stunning Male Regent Bowerbird. He is a medium size bird 25-30m and are Sexually Dimorphic.
He is a glossy jet-black, with his crown, nape and inner wing feathers bright golden orange and his bill and eye being yellow. Males acquire their adult plumage at 5 years.
The Male can be difficult to see as he is mostly seen as a flash of gold/black in quick flight between cover. He lives mostly in rainforest margins, coastal scrubs, thickets of raspberries, wild tobacco, inkweed, secondary growth, orchards and gardens from Central Queensland to New South Wales
The male builds the bower using a shallow layer of twigs which forms the base for 2 parallel walls of twigs 15-20cm long, 24-30cm high and 9cm wide. He then decorates his bower with shells, seeds, leaves and berries to attract the female
I was lucky to have had the chance to watch them closely for a couple of days and was stunned by the sheer beauty and character of this delightful bird.
