From Birds to Bees
In Australia we have over 1,700 Australian Native Bees I haven't spotted the Blue Banded Bee to date but we have noticed they don't appear until it is really warm. I can always hear them as they are much loader than our Honeybee. Most of the bees we have on our property are the Honey Bees (see below 4 images)
Today I spotted something that looked very small land on a Grevillea flower so quickly changed my lens so I could capture it. It was an Australian Native Bee. Australia has eleven species of the small black Stingless Bee (see the images below).
The small black stingless bees are are only about 4mm long making them difficult to see. I couldn't of even see them with my normal lens but once I changed my lens I was really surprised when I saw what they were.
None of the Australian Native Bees are true Honey Bees. The Bee-eater which I love to photograph eats moths, insects and bees, in this photo I took last year you can see it eating a moth or butterfly. I hope they don't eat too many of our Bees
