Day 6 of our road trip to Dubbo
We said goodbye to the Cattlemans Country Inn Dubbo about 5.00am as we wanted to have breakfast at this great little place we found in Dubbo.
Once on the road our first stop was planed for at Gunnedah which was about a 3 hour drive from Dubbo, however when we got there we couldn't find anywhere to stop and freshen up and we didn't want to spend too much time there looking for somewhere as we still had a long way to go to get to Dorrigo hopefully by mid afternoon, so we stopped about 10 minutes out of Gunnedah pulling off the road. We had a coffee and snack, but the flies were really really bad, we changed drivers which we did every 2 hours. When we were driving down to Dubbo on our 2nd day trip we noticed a bushfire burning over towards the coast which made things a bit smokie. Well the smoke seemed a little thicker as we headed to our lunch break stop which was another 2 hour15min drive away. The country was very dry and dusty and fortunately we didn't have too much traffic. This would of been a lovely drive if more rain had fallen here.
We eventually arrived at Armidale where we stopped and had lunch, but we couldn't stay there too long either as we we booked in for the night at Dorrigo. We were planning on calling in to see the Ebor Falls about 55 minute drive from Armidale. Countryside still very dry and dusty not a lot of cattle could be seen along the way, dams were bone dry, so sad to see our beautiful country suffer at the hands of a drought.
We pulled into the Entrance to the Ebor Falls and It was closed off with a sign saying "Closed due to the Bushfires". This must of happened when we saw the smoke on our 2nd day of this road trip. Both Lindy and I were so disappointed, and even though Jim and I saw them In March 2019 a few months earlier I was really looking forward to seeing them again. That would of been the first time Lindy had seen them too.
This is a photo I took of the Ebor Falls taken in March 2019
Feeling disappointed we drove to our accommodation in Dorrigo another 41 minute drive. Not long after we left the falls the landscape started to change, where it had been dry and dusty we could start seeing a green tinge to the grass, the country was starting to look gorgeous with rolling hills and valleys, it was misty raining and a little foggy looking, but just beautiful
The closer we got to Dorrigo the more beautiful it became lush and green, even the cattle looked fat and happy grazing in the lush pastures.
We arrived at Dorrigo which was this charming little country town. Our accommodation was at the Lookout Mountain Retreat, which I can highly recommend.
It was raining a bit heavier here on and off but our room was so inviting with us being tired from the long drive from Dubbo, but our large glass ceiling to floor doors opened up to views over the valley. So spectacular.
Dorrigo is well known for its wild life. This Male King Parrot was out and about at about 5.00am the following morning, fortunately I was too with camera in hand.
is another great adventure in Dorrigo
We had a good walk around the grounds where we were staying and I think I have fallen in love with Dorrigo. Will definately be coming back here again.
Tomorrow after breakfast in the dining room we will hit the road for our 7th and last day of our road trip to Dorrigo.
This will be in my next post
