A couple of Aussie Finches
Honestly, I personally have found Finch's are the most complicated to investigate. There is nothing simple about them at all. There appears to be 15 species of Finch's in Australia. You can also do your own search or you can click on the Red-Browed Finch. They are a beautiful little bird and fairly tame for having their photos taken. They are 11-11.5cm in size. Similar species is the Red-eared Firetails they hang around in fairs and families and darts to cover in bouncing flight. Their voice is a high pitched squeak, sharp 'dup'; brisk chatter
Their habit includes grassy clearings in forests, woodlands, coastal scrubs/heaths, mangroves, canefields, crops roadside, blackberries, lantana, golf courses, orchards, parks and gardens
They Breed from Sept-Jan and the female will lay 4-6 eggs. They can be found all the way down the east coast of Australia and into South Australia. Other Finch's are Star Finch the Crimson Finch; the Zebra Finch the Beautiful Firetail the Red-Eared Firetail the Painted Finch the Diamond firetail the Gouldian Finch the Blue-Faced Parrot Finch the Plum-Headed Finch the Masked Finch the Long-Tailed Finch the Black-Throated Finch and I will finish with a few photos of my favorite the Double-Barred Finch
Other names are Banded or Black-ringed Finch. They are 10-11cm in size similar species is Banded Whiteface, white-fronted Chat
Breeds July-Dec and the female will lay 4-5 (6) eggs. Their Habitat is similar the the Red-Browed Finch they and they can be found from the Kimberley's in WA up to Northern NT all the way down coastal and a little inland to the NSW/VIC border some may be found just south of that border
Feel so blessed to have so many beautiful birds here in Australia
